WarnerMedia and Discovery team up to reinforce HBO Max with new content

For some time, Western media reported that the AT&T conglomerate was negotiating with the American media company Discovery Inc. on the merger, and today, on May 17, the merger of the assets of the two companies in the entertainment sector became officially known. Based on information provided by Bloomberg, Discovery, which includes the television channels Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Science Channel and more, will merge with WarnerMedia Corporation to form a new company in the multimedia entertainment market. At the same time, 71% of the shares of the new company will belong to the shareholders of AT&T.

It is worth noting that at the moment this transaction has not yet been approved by regulators, so it is planned to close it in 2022 after receiving all permits. At the same time, the amount of the transaction has already been officially named – it will amount to $ 43 billion, but not the entire amount will be paid in cash. The representatives of the companies noted that part of the amount will be paid in the form of securities. But the name of the new company is still silent – the future brand will probably be named after the regulators approve the merger.

But now it is already known that it will be part of the new multimedia giant:

  • film company Warner Bros. with television subdivisions;
  • American cable network HBO;
  • DC Entertainment (film studio and publisher);
  • streaming service HBO Max;
  • Discovery Channel, CNN, TNT and TBS;
  • Discovery + streaming service.

Also, AT&T CEO John T. Stankey said that additional funds will be invested in the future to produce new content and develop streaming services, and funds allocated for the production of original shows will be increased.
