The national meteorological service AEMET has issued a ‘red’ warning, meaning the possibility of extreme danger, for today in the Madrid region, the province of Toledo and the city of Cádiz.

He mentioned how up to 120 liters of rain per square kilometer are expected to fallwithin 12 hours in Madrid.
“Due to the unusual and unnatural situation, in which the maximum rainfall limits will be broken, I am asking the residents of Madrid to stay indoors todayMadrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Dark storm clouds were gathering over Madrid in the early afternoon today, but many people were out on the streets as usual.
“I think (the red alert) is a good idea” said Manuel Loro, 42, a resident of Madrid. “The best thing to do is not to use the car today. It will be more difficult at six o’clock, so we will go home earlier».
Madrid’s emergency services sent messages to residents warning them for flood risk and advising them not to use vehicles.
In Alcanar, Tarragona, on Spain’s east coast, emergency services also advised residents to stay indoors due to flooding after 215 liters of rain per square meter fell in the past 24 hours.
