The warship “Orsk”, which was bombed and sunk by Ukrainian forces on Thursday (24), was part of a recent propaganda video by the Russian navy.
According to the CNN, the footage was released by the RT channel and showed military vehicles being unloaded in Orsk earlier this week at the port of Berdyansk in southeastern Ukraine. The video opens with footage captured by a drone and shows military personnel and artillery being loaded onto the ship.
“This is a unique sight: a Russian naval armada in a port that Ukrainian troops abandoned without a fight, leaving the facility completely intact,” the video reads.
“The purpose of this ship is to transport military personnel and heavy equipment. For the Russian operation to be successful, it is critical that the troops are supplied and reinforced without stopping,” says the RT journalist, adding that the ship, which still contained weapons and provisions for Russian forces to fight in Mariupol, was capable of ” transport 400 soldiers, 20 tanks and 45 tanks”.
The video also features statements by a Russian officer on the docks, who says the loss of the ship could mean a significant setback for Russia.
“Our arrival here is a remarkable event. It opens up completely new opportunities for the Black Sea fleet to use existing Ukrainian infrastructure for logistical operations.”
However, what the officer feared most happened, and just four days after the video was broadcast, Orsk was bombed by Ukrainian forces to the point of sinking in the Sea of Azov after a fuel tank was hit by Ukrainian missiles.
Berdyansk, a port city on the Sea of Azov, less than 80 kilometers from Mariupol, a privileged access towards Odessa, Ukraine’s third largest city and one of the main ports on the Black Sea, was a territory occupied by the invaders in its early days. of the war on 28 February.
