Washington announces new military aid package for Ukraine

The United States they announced today a new package military aid for Ukrainewith an estimated value of 100 million dollars, which includes means to strengthen anti-aircraft defenses, on the day of the visit of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to Kiev.

The package includes an additional HIMARS multiple launch missile system, artillery shells and anti-tank weapons, as well as small-caliber ammunition, according to Pentagon and State Department releases.

This new aid comes from funds already approved by the US Congress but being reduced pending a vote on a new budget for Ukraine requested by President Joe Biden, but pending due to opposition from Republican lawmakers.

It is critical that Congress take action to support Ukraine by approving the additional budget“, said the head of American diplomacy, Anthony Blinken, according to the press release.

In the Ukrainian capital, the US Secretary of Defense assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that Washington will continue to support Kiev in its fight against the Russian invaders.

The United States is by far the largest donor of military aid to Ukraine, totaling more than $44 billion since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.
