Washington does not rule out the possibility of new sanctions against Russia

The United States is considering imposing further sanctions on Russia and has not ruled out anything, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said tonight.

Stating that “everything is on the table”, the head of US diplomacy commented, however, that the imposition of energy sanctions on Russia would have the direct effect of reducing global supply and increasing fuel prices for Americans.

Blinken also defended NATO’s decision not to establish a no-fly zone over Ukrainian airspace. He explained that such a measure would result in the conflict spreading to more countries.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that the war does not spread beyond Ukraine. A no-fly zone would lead to a normal war in Europe,” he told a news conference in Brussels.

Blinken stressed that Russia is more isolated than ever and reiterated that the cost will be high for Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Tens of millions of Russians will suffer because of the dangerous decisions made by a small circle of corrupt leaders and their collaborators. If the Kremlin does not change course, it will continue on the path of increasing isolation,” he added.
