Washington gave the green light for the appointment of the new Russian ambassador – There is no official name yet

Approval has been given for the appointment of the new Russian ambassador to Washington by the US, according to a statement by a Russian lawmaker on state television today. The new ambassador may be formally appointed in the coming weeks, said Grigory Karashin, head of the International Affairs Committee in the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the state-run TASS news agency that “The agreement has not yet been received.” Neither Karasin nor Zakharova named the new ambassador. The last Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, left his post in October. According to a report in Kommersant newspaper last November, Russia will appoint Alexander Dartsyev, who is currently the head of the North American Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as its new ambassador to Washington.
