Washington had informed Iran of the threat of a bomb attack by the Islamic State

The United States they secretly warned Iran that the Islamic state planned the Jan. 3 suicide attack that killed 84 people, US officials told the Wall Street Journal.

“Prior to the IS terrorist attack in the Iranian city of Kerman, the US government provided a private warning to Iran regarding a terrorist threat within Iranian borders,” an official said. “The US government followed the 'duty to warn' policy which was followed by all (previous) governments in terms of informing (other countries) of potential lethal threats. We make these warnings in part because we don't want to see innocent lives lost in terrorist attacks,” he explained.

According to the newspaper, the information that the Islamic State of Khorasan was planning an attack were specific, in terms of place and time and could help Iran prevent it.

The attack took place while a large crowd had gathered in the city of Kerman to honor the memory of General of the Revolutionary Guards Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by a US airstrike in Baghdad on January 3, 2020.
