Washington Welcomes Canadian Police Intervention to Open Border Roads

LAST UPDATE: 22.38

Washington today welcomed Canadian police intervention to open several strategically important US-Canada border crossings that had been blocked by anti-sanction protesters, the White House said in a statement.

Canadian authorities plan to reopen a major bridge to the United States following the removal of protesters and vehicles from a vital trade route between the two countries, the White House said.

“The Canadian authorities intend to reopen the Ambassador Bridge today, following the completion of the necessary security checks. We stand ready to support our Canadian partners where appropriate, to ensure that the normal flow of goods can be restored.” said Liz Sergund-Randall, Joe Biden’s national security adviser, according to a statement.

Liz Sergund-Randall expressed “her gratitude for the decisive efforts of the (Canadian) law enforcement forces across the border to achieve a complete lifting of the blockade.”

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Monday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

“According to the information we have received, most of the protesters have been removed, the obstacles are being removed and the crossing is being secured,” the statement said.
