Water Resistance Tester app tests smartphone water resistance without being immersed in water

An application has appeared in the Google Play store that can check if a smartphone has water protection. The Water Resistance Tester does this with a barometer built into the device, not only detects compliance with IP67 / IP68 standards, but can also recognize the absence of a SIM card cover.

To find out if a smartphone is capable of resisting moisture getting inside, you need to launch the application and then tap the screen. After a couple of seconds, the display shows the result, which boils down to whether the device passed the test or not. Specialized resources such as Android Police and The Verge have tested the application on several devices, and in all cases the results were consistent with what is indicated in the characteristics of smartphones. One would assume that the developer is simply using the information declared by the manufacturers, but this is not the case. For example, the IP68-rated Galaxy Note20 Ultra passed the test first, but failed with the SIM tray pulled out.

Water Resistance Tester developer Ray Wang says he created the app to help people test the water resistance of their smartphones after being repaired, buying a used device, or after years of active use. The discussion of the program on Reddit, as well as user reviews on Google Play, indicate that the application works quite correctly.
