Water supply is suspended in cities of Alagoas after heavy rains

Heavy rains that occurred last weekend compromised the functioning of water supply systems in 12 municipalities in the state of Alagoas according to the Sanitation Company of Alagoas (couple).

The city facing the most critical scenario is Porto de Pedras, which has been standing in activities since 7:30 am on Saturday (17) “due to the interruption in the supply of electricity.” In Leopoldina Colony, the interruption took place at 8:50 pm, harming the residents of the site.

The couple stated in a statement that increasing water turbidity in springs damaged the treatment process and required the temporary suspension of captures, reaching some regions of the Rio Largo, Murici and Messiah municipalities.

The Farol, Bebedouro and Chã de Bebedouro neighborhoods of the city of Maceió were also committed because of a large amount of solid materials that hit the aqueduct that sends water to the Cardoso Water Treatment Station (ETA). The whole region that goes from the center to Pontal da Barra has also been harmed.

At 4 am on Sunday (18), the supply was paralyzed in Ibateguara. In Passo de Camaragibe, the station that supplies the urban area has been stopped since 6:30 am. Already at 8 am it was Anadia’s turn.

Jacuípe, Chapel, Joaquim Gomes and Camaragibe matrix face mechanical problems in the sieve – sieve responsible for filtering and preventing objects such as leaves, branches, stones or garbage from entering the pumps that send water – which was overloaded with debris.

The couple said the technical team is continually monitoring the water quality of the stations, as well as the total regularization of the supply. “Once possible and safe, within the required technical standards, water production and capture will be resumed to ensure the safety and quality of service provided to the population,” he said.
