The Navy has issued a warning for possible sea swells on the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The warning will be in effect at 3 pm next Tuesday (30) and will end at 9 am on Thursday (1st). Waves are expected to reach up to 2.5 meters.
See the Navy’s guidelines:
- Avoid swimming in areas with rough seas;
- Avoid practicing sports at sea;
- Do not stay at viewpoints on the shore or in places close to the sea during the storm;
- Beachgoers must follow the instructions of the Fire Department teams;
- Fishermen should avoid sailing during the storm surge period;
- Avoid cycling along the shore if the waves are reaching the cycle path;
- Do not enter the sea to rescue accident victims
Earlier this month, seawater flooded Delfim Moreira Avenue in Leblon, Rio’s southern zone, after a strong storm surge. At the time, the Navy had also issued a warning for waves of up to 3 meters.
In images published on social media, it was possible to see the moment when the water invaded the sidewalk and took over both sides of the avenue.
Additionally, a cyclist was knocked down by the water.
