“We are going to propose a CPI to investigate Petrobras”, says Bolsonaro after readjustment

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Friday (17) that he will “propose a CPI [Comissão Parlamentar de Inquérito] to investigate Petrobras” after the state-owned company announced a readjustment.

“I just talked to Arthur Lira [presidente da Câmara]meeting with party leaders and our idea is to propose a CPI to investigate Petrobras, its directors and the members of the Board”, said the president in an interview with Rádio 96 FM, from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte and broadcast on his profile. official on Facebook.

Petrobras announced this Friday a new adjustment in fuel prices. Gasoline rose 5.18%, while diesel had a price increase of 14.26%.

“Betrayal to the Brazilian people. Petrobras’ profit is something that no one can understand. It earns 6x more than the average of the world’s oil companies. Oil companies outside Brazil have reduced their profits, but they continue to make a profit to, precisely, serve the population in difficult times, because this is all the result of a war far from Brazil,” Bolsonaro said.

“In the first quarter of this year alone, it profited 44 billion reais and you can reduce this part of the profit because it is provided for in state laws that it has to have a social purpose and it does not care about the social, it cares about profit” , said the president.

This Friday, Petrobras informed the company, starting this Saturday (18) gasoline will vary by R$0.15 per liter, while diesel will vary by R$0.63 per liter.

How will the increase

In the first case, Petrobras stated that the average sale price for distributors will rise from R$3.86 to R$4.06 per liter.

Considering the mandatory blend of 73% gasoline A and 27% anhydrous ethanol for the composition of gasoline sold at gas stations, the state-owned company’s share of the consumer price will rise from R$2.81, on average, to R$2.96 for every liter sold at the pump.

In relation to diesel, the increase is greater — Petrobras’ average sales price to distributors will rise from R$4.91 to R$5.61 per liter.

When considering the mandatory mixture of 90% diesel A and 10% biodiesel for the composition of the diesel sold at gas stations, the company’s share of the consumer price will increase from R$ 4.42, on average, to R$ 5.05 for every liter sold at the pump.

The readjustment in the price of gasoline takes place after 99 days, with the last increase on March 11, while for diesel the last change took place on May 10, 39 days ago.

“With this move, Petrobras reiterates its commitment to the practice of competitive prices and in balance with the market, while avoiding the immediate transfer to domestic prices of the volatility of international quotations and the exchange rate, that is, avoids passing on temporary variations that can be reversed in the short term. In this way, observing the evolution of the market, it was possible to keep sales prices for distributors stable for 99 days for gasoline and 39 days for diesel”, highlighted Petrobras, in a note.

The diesel price readjustment was anticipated by the economics analyst at CNN Raquel Landim . According to sources, the board of directors authorized the increase in a meeting on Thursday (16), marked by disagreements between the directors.

With the readjustment in the price of diesel, the federal government is discussing including in the PEC of Fuels a kind of aid for drivers and truck drivers. The project, according to reports made to the CNN would have already received the green light from the economic team, according to which the measure would be within the fiscal ceiling.
