“We are killing the future of humanity”, says Lula about the death of children in war

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) once again called for an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas this Monday (23). He said that by killing children, confrontation kills the future of humanity.

Last week, the number of children killed in the Gaza Strip exceeded 700, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

“I see the number of children who were killed in Palestine, in Gaza, and who were killed in Israel. It’s not possible. We are killing the future of humanity”, said Lula during an event to hand over housing units under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program.

Lula, who is still recovering from hip surgery, participated virtually and took advantage of the speech to also talk about violence against children here in Brazil. “This country deserves to live with love, this country deserves to live without hate,” she added.

Attack in São Paulo

This Monday (23), a student died and three other people were injured after shots were fired on the premises of the Sapopemba State School, located in the east zone of São Paulo. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.

On social media, Lula took a stance on the case and stated that he received the news “with great sadness”. “We cannot normalize affordable guns for young people in our society and tragedies like these,” she wrote.
