The Chinese company Xiaomi announced the expansion of its partnership with the international payment system Mastercard.
This message, not very interesting for ordinary users, was flavored with an interesting promise – within the framework of cooperation, the companies are going to work together “to work on the launch of new payment devices in Russia.”
The head of Xiaomi in Russia and the CIS, Yu Man, explained:
2020 taught us that contactless payment is not only convenient and modern, but also safe. Mi Smart Band 4 NFC came in handy and helped to take a step towards a cashless future, even for owners of smartphones without NFC support. Together with our partners from Mastercard, we are not going to be satisfied with what has already been achieved, as evidenced by the agreement signed today. I am confident that the new wearable devices with support for contactless payment, which we are preparing for release, will fall in love with our customers no less than the legendary Mi Smart Band 4 NFC. ”
Now in Russia, only one smart bracelet with NFC support is officially sold – the same Mi Smart Band 4 NFC, which went on sale in May 2020. Meanwhile, in versions without NFC, not only Mi Smart Band 5, but also the newest Mi Smart Band 6 are already available to Russian users.
In China, Mi Smart Band 6 with NFC has been on sale for a long time, although there it is called Xiaomi Mi Band 6. It may, of course, turn out that in Russia Xiaomi decides to start with the launch of Mi Smart Band 5 NFC, but it is more logical to expect the imminent announcement of Mi Smart Band 6 NFC.
