The environmentalist geographer Carlos Minc, who is on the Environment team for the transition of government of president-elect Lula (PT), told the CNN, this Friday (18), more than 100 acts of the Bolsonaro government that must be revoked were raised.
“I listed 120 government acts – including decrees, ordinances, normative instructions – that practically veto the application of fines, removing control over timber exports. This can all be reversed with a signature, in what we call environmental repeal”, he said, in an interview with CNN New Day, the former Minister of the Environment.
He stated that, by reversing the measures decreed by the current government, he believes that in six months the deforestation rates can be overthrown.
“Reactivating the Amazon Fund is an essential goal because these resources can be used for inspection, monitoring and support for sustainable extractivism. Because to reduce deforestation it is not enough to repress crime. You have to make pacts with the private sector, guide good practices to create jobs without destroying the biome,” added Minc.
The former minister stated that these actions will be “signals to Brazil and the world that we are going to resume the green agenda”. “We are not going to be complacent or conniving with environmental crime and with aggression against indigenous peoples”, he concluded.
