“We must help Ukraine to defend itself from its aggressor”, says German minister

Annalena Baerbock, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, in an emergency meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), said that “we must help Ukraine to defend itself from its aggressor”. Since Thursday (24), Russia has invaded Ukrainian territory using air and ground forces.

She declares that what is at stake is “the life or death of the Ukrainian people, the security of Europe and the UN charter”. Annalena says that the Russian war marks a new world reality and asks that all ambassadors make responsible decisions.

“Germany is aware of its historic responsibility, which is why we will always seek peaceful solutions. When we face an attack, we must act responsibly,” she says. “We must be willing to question our past attitudes.”

Throughout the speech, the minister says that Putin’s tanks do not carry tools “of peace, but of death and destruction”. She also asks about the position of the Russian president, and says: you act in high defense, but the planet watched as you assembled your troops for this attack.

“Today, we face a new reality. A reality that Putin forced on all of us”.
