We need a stronger position from Brazil, says Ukraine representative in Brasilia

The charge d’affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in Brasilia, Anatoliy Tkach, said this Tuesday (1) that Brazil needs a stronger position on the war. “We would like a stronger position from Brazil, a position of support, of condemnation of Russia.”

Anatoliy Tkach also said that he does not understand what a position of impartiality of a country on a war would be like, when asked about the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França.

“I don’t know what impartiality is, we now know who the aggressor is, it’s not hiding. So impartiality is about the aggressor, I don’t know. I don’t understand how impartiality can apply in this situation.”

In a press conference, the head of the Ukrainian embassy thanked the NGOs for receiving clothes and hygiene kits, but pondered: “It is a gesture of hospitality, but to stop the aggression, you need to put greater pressure on the aggressor, cutting the ties, as some are already doing against Russia”.

Anatoliy Tkach also thanked the Brazilian government for the humanitarian reception. “We are grateful for these initiatives by Brazil to welcome Ukrainians, we do not know the data on how many can come, but we thank the state governments for welcoming, receiving and guiding. São Paulo and Curitiba have already spoken out.”

The representative of the Ukrainian embassy in Brazil also defended, at the press conference, that “Russia has failed to achieve one of its main objectives” and that “Ukrainian soldiers are defending Ukraine”.

“Putin starts committing more war crimes, taking away civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Tkach accused. “Russia has become toxic, and Russian has become synonymous with barbarian.” The Ukrainian diplomat also made an appeal to other countries. “We urge everyone to cut ties with Russia. Doing business with Russia means funding aggression, war crimes, disinformation and cyber attacks.”

The head of the Ukrainian embassy listed the victims of Russia counted by the Ukrainians: 5,700 people, between dead and wounded; 200 prisoners; 20 aircraft; 29 helicopters; 148 armored vehicles; 305 trucks; 60 fuel systems; 60 anti-aircraft systems – according to information from Anatoliy Tkach.

The diplomat representing Ukraine in Brazil also commented on the most recent attacks, such as the missile that hit the TV tower in Kiev. “Ukraine’s capital is under constant attack. Alarms sound several times for air raid shelters. (…) In our capital, Russia concentrates a huge amount of armored vehicles and tanks”, reported Tkach.
