The City of Lajeado, in the Vales region of Rio Grande do Sul, reported this Sunday (12) that the Taquari River reached 25.02 meters at 5:30 pm, after rising 36 centimeters in just one hour.
During the morning, the city had issued an alert stipulating a measurement of 29 meters from the river as a safety margin for residents to leave their homes.
According to a statement from City Hall, the proportions of the flood should be similar to those of September 2023.
“How is it going to be?”
In conversation with reporter Nathália Lauxen, cook Daniela Frantz, resident of Lajeado, said that water invaded the apartment where she lived during last week's flood.
“What we did was lift things up. We didn't imagine it would be so much. We left there, because of course it wasn’t going to stay, but when everything went up, we were terrified,” he reported.
The woman said she has lived in an apartment on the second floor for almost four years, and in the September 2023 flood, water entered the building about 40 centimeters.
In November, according to her, there were “two steps left on the stairs to get to the apartment”. “We left when the water was 'covering' the front of the building”, she explained when talking about having left the house in a hurry.
“Now, what will it be like? That's the question”, said Frantz, stating that the rental price in non-flooded areas is more expensive.
The cook also said that she rented an apartment in the condominium opposite the one she lived in, but now on the third floor.
“We need to build life again”
Resident of a condominium in the upper part of the city of Lajeado, Joel da Silva had to be rescued by Army soldiers after last week's flood.
“One of the things we never thought about is that the water would go up here. She [a enchente] went up more than we thought,” he told CNN .
“I ask everyone, whoever can, to help us. Because we are in need of help,” she said. “It’s not just food, we need to build life again”, he said.
