We need to have a partnership with the private sector, says Freixo about tourism

The president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, in an interview with CNN this Tuesday (14th), said that it is necessary to have a partnership with the private sector to promote tourism in the country.

“We need to understand how much tourism is strategic for the world today and we need to have a partnership with the private sector, and the private sector is very important. The hotel chain, restaurant owners, this whole tourism scenario is aligned with Embratur”, he said.

Freixo commented that he also compared the amount invested in tourism by countries similar to Brazil and reaffirmed the importance of more resources for promoting the sector.

“Peru, which is a country that has a very big political crisis right now, they invest US$ 50 million in tourism. Argentina invests more than US$ 15 million. Colombia invests US$ 26 million. Mexico invests US$ 240 million in the promotion of its tourist destinations. We invested just over US$10 million. The lack of vision is very great”.

The president of Embratur also criticized the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) regarding the management of the body.

“What they did with Embratur was to turn it into a big job hanger, a lot of irregularities. We took over less than a month ago and found that after the second round election, more than 30 people were hired and promoted. Which is clearly bad faith with public money,” he said.
