We see very strong business confidence in relation to the future, says secretary

In an interview with CNN this Thursday (1st), the secretary of Economic Policy of the Ministry of Economy, Pedro Calhman, stated that the result of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the 2nd quarter of this year has as one of the factors the positive business confidence with regard to to the future.

“We see business confidence in the current situation and in the future very strong. It has a very large agenda of concessions for the private sector, which is generating a lot of investment in infrastructure, basic sanitation and other sectors”.

This Thursday, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) reported that the Brazilian economy recorded growth of 1.2% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the first three months of the year. The result for the quarter is the fourth positive in a row after the 0.3% decline from April to June last year. Compared to the same period last year, the increase was 3.2%.

According to Calhman, the result obtained in the quarter reinforces the projection of continued growth in 2023.

“This quarter’s performance only reinforces our forecast for next year, which is another year of strong growth. We are projecting 2.5% GDP growth for the following year,” he said.

The data released by the IBGE came above the median of market expectations, which pointed to an increase of 0.9% in the monthly comparison and 2.8% in the annual comparison.

Regarding the quality of growth, the secretary believes that it is an increase driven by investments. “This is growth driven by investment, which generates greater production capacity in the future. So it’s the best kind of growth.”
