Kate and Gerry McCann reacted to news that Portuguese prosecutors had formally identified a man as a suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the British child who disappeared from Praia da Luz, in the Portuguese Algarve region, in May 2007.
“We welcome the news that the Portuguese authorities have declared a German man a suspect in the case of the disappearance of our dear daughter Madeleine,” Kate and Gerry wrote in a note published on the website findmadeleine.com.
The couple said this “reflects progress in the investigation”, which is being conducted by Portuguese, German and British authorities, who continue to inform the McCann family of all developments.
“It is important to note that the suspect has not yet been charged with any crime related to Madeleine’s disappearance,” the statement added.
At the end of the statement, another message of hope: “Although the chances are few, we have not given up hope that Madeleine is alive and that we will be able to meet her again”.
The German citizen Christian Brückner was, this Thursday (21), considered a suspect by the district of Faro of the Portuguese Public Ministry for the case of the disappearance of Maddie McCann.
“As part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007, a suspect was constituted”, says a note released by the Public Ministry.
In the note, the Public Ministry states that the “suspect was constituted by the German authorities in execution of a request for international judicial cooperation issued by the Public Ministry of Portugal”.
