“We will not give up”: Israeli protesters demand hostage agreement and end of Netanyahu government

Protesters took to the streets of several cities in Israel this Saturday (22) to demand an agreement that guarantees the safe release of all hostages held in Gaza and called for early elections to be held in the country.

Families of hostages in Gaza also participated in protests against the Netanyahu government in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Herzliya, Caesarea, Raanana, Be’er Sheva, Kiryat Gat and the city of Pardes Hanna-Karkur.

Many waved the country’s flags and carried banners with photos of the hostages, while others spoke into megaphones demanding that the government accept the agreement proposed by Qatar and Egypt, which has already been accepted by Hamas.

“Alive! Alive! And not in body bags!” protesters shouted in Tel Aviv. “Hostage release agreement now! Bring them alive now! The baby, the soldiers, the women, the men.”

Other protesters also shouted for “Elections now”.

In Jerusalem, protesters also demand that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accept the hostage release agreement on the table. “There is nothing more important, all hostages must return!” they shouted.

The protests in Caesarea held Netanyahu directly responsible for the continuation of the war: “You are the leader, you are to blame!”

In the town of Pardes Hanna-Karkur, protesters also called for the release of all hostages and early elections. Some of them were heard chanting “we won’t give up until we make this a better place to live.”

Former member of the Israeli war cabinet Benny Gantz, who resigned from Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, participated in a demonstration in Carmei Gat, in the city of Kiryat Gat, with members of kibbutz Nir Oz.

Nir Oz was one of several kibbutzim that bore the brunt of the Hamas attack on October 7, with many residents killed or taken hostage.
