Residents of homes neighboring that of the Novo Hamburgo shooter, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, who had already claimed 12 victims as of this Wednesday morning (23), told CNN that the shots were heard for almost the entire morning.
The suspect hit 12 people and of these, three died and nine were injured. When called to support the incident, an officer who had been shot even begged for help.
In a report to CNN one of the witnesses, who lives close to the scene, stated that the shots started at around 11pm at night. She did not want to be identified.
Around 4 am the shooting stopped, but around two hours later they resumed.
“There were several shots, we were scared. Lots of siren noises. Lots of shots that went back and forth. Whoever slept, slept with the sound of the gunshots and woke up with them too”, highlighted the resident.
Witnesses highlight that the shooter’s only response to the police’s actions is to shoot.
At the beginning of the incident, a resident reported that he heard the father ask his son not to shoot. “It all happened very quickly. There are people who spent the whole night lying on the floor. It’s difficult”, concluded the witness.
Novo Hamburgo (RS) shooter
On Tuesday night (22), a man shot several people inside his residence in Novo Hamburgo, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The Military Brigade was called to the incident around 11pm.
To date, three people have died and nine have been injured. The fatal victims are military police officer Everton Raniere Kirsch Junior and the suspect’s father, Eugênio Crippa, aged 74, as well as his brother.
Preliminary information released by authorities indicates that a family disagreement caused the confusion.
The location is isolated for safety. Neighbors were removed from the area, as the man is still inside the house and could fire further shots.
