In the first six months of 2021, Russian car sellers earned 2.5 times more than a year ago. Their total revenue for the first half of the year amounted to 1.2 trillion rubles. Forbes writes about this with reference to the AutoBusinessReview magazine.
Analysts explain the growth in revenue of domestic car dealers not only by the rise in prices for new cars, but also by the increase in sales of used cars. Rolf remains the leader of the Russian automotive market in terms of revenue. During the reporting period, he sold cars for 173.37 billion rubles, which is 81% more compared to the same period last year. Rolf is also the leader in terms of sales in quantitative terms. In the company’s dealerships in Moscow and St. Petersburg, 40,140 new cars were sold in the first half of the year, demonstrating 29% annual growth. As for used cars, their sales in the Rolf chain grew by 73% over the year to 42,931 units.
Two dealers from the TOP-25 showed a record growth in revenue in the period from January to June. Thus, Avtodom’s revenue grew by 143%, reaching 49.8 billion rubles. And Panavto was able to increase its revenue by 104% to 15.2 billion rubles in a year.
It is noted that 50 leading dealers accounted for half of all new car sales in Russia. In general, in the first six months, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the country increased by 36.9% or by 234,790 units to 870,749 units. However, analysts believe that dealers could have sold more cars, but they were prevented from doing so by a shortage of chips. The population had free money to buy a car, since many potential buyers did not go on vacation. However, from the second quarter of 2021, the shortage of cars began to increase and, therefore, the delivery time for new cars to buyers increased.
Domestic dealers were able to partly increase their revenue through the sale of special stages. Buyers complain that sellers force the installation of additional equipment at gigantic mark-ups. But in the face of scarcity, customers are willing to buy cars, despite the pricing. According to the results of the first half of the year, the average cost of a new passenger car amounted to 1.886 million rubles. Over the year, this figure has grown by 12.5%. Moreover, if we consider only foreign cars, then their average price increased by 14.4% to 2.246 million rubles, while domestic cars rose on average by 11.6% to 782 thousand rubles.
