Analysts at ABI Research predict that the pandemic will continue to increase shipments of wearable devices and wireless headsets in the coming year.

As people still spend more time at home than before the pandemic, there is a surge in the use of wireless headsets around the world to meet the need for personalized audio reproduction that minimizes external distractions. According to ABI Research’s forecast, shipments of wireless headsets will continue to grow in the coming years and will exceed 1 billion pieces in 2026. Demand will be fueled by price cuts and technological innovations including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Audio, Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML) and embedded sensors, which will open up new use cases.

All-wireless headsets (TWS) have been named the most promising category of wearable devices, and analysts see advances in noise canceling technology as one of the areas for development. In addition, ABI Research has identified TSW as a key growth engine for voice assistants as voice control becomes the primary user interface for hands-free smart device control. Other promising headset apps include music therapy. It is expected to help manage anxiety or sleep disturbances, becoming more effective as technologies for surround sound, noise cancellation and the integration of digital assistants develop. ABI Research predicts global TWS shipments will exceed 600 million units by 2026.
