Weber: Coordinated EU approach to tackling Indian coronavirus mutation

The head of the Parliamentary Group of the European People’s Party expresses his concern over the spread of the Indian coronavirus strain Manfred Weber noting that a coordinated European approach is urgent.

“The news of the development of the coronavirus situation in India is extremely worrying. “The Indian mutation seems to be spreading rapidly and the situation there threatens to get out of control.”

Manfred Weber notes that “some cases of Covid with the Indian mutation have already occurred in Belgium and other EU countries” and stressed that “this time, EU Home Ministers must act immediately and impose a temporary ban on incoming flights from India and common European entry restrictions “.

“We also need a homogeneous approach to controls and quarantine rules for people from the area. We can’t stand another uncontrollable mutation spreading to our airports. “There is an urgent need for a coordinated EU approach,” Weber concluded.
