Whatever the rite, whatever the religion, the wedding dresses they contain within themselves a choice linked to an important and profound moment. For this reason, if we try to google “wedding dress” on the Internet, there are countless guide articles to find the perfect one for each one.
Who said you have to go broke for a wedding dress? With the economic crisis the market of wedding dress affordable is booming. And we have gathered evidence that the dream dress does not necessarily have to cost exorbitantly. Even less than 100 euros
However, beyond the trends of the moment and also the Istat data according to which in Italy there has been a reduction in marriages in the last 40 years (even if the number of civil ceremonies is growing), in our country, everywhere, when we go at a wedding, you do it with style.
But, both for our particular historical background and for different rhythms and approaches to life, along the country, brides seem to behave differently faced with the fateful choice wedding dress. Of course, there are points in common: for the majority of Italian women, the color for the most beautiful day is not discussed, and it is the white (albeit with some surprises). What changes are the preferences for silhouettes, fabrics, volumes, necklines and the choice of veil. What divides Italy is perhaps the greater attention to craftsmanship found in the South more than in the North.
Desperately looking for an opportunity to show it off again. Because the wedding dress is too beautiful to be locked in a wardrobe forever. Even celebs know it: some have reused it on other occasions. And why not, after all!?

In Puglia, for example, Rosaria Coscia, designer and artisan, founder of the Il Tocco di Minerva laboratory, has confirmed that she is increasingly involved in definition of the bridal look, between earrings, tiaras and shawls: «With us, marriage is tradition, refinement, originality, attention to detail».
Returning to the wedding dress, we did research around Italy and captured the white mood throughout the country, getting an idea of the wedding dresses Yes, I do in five cities of our country: Reggio Calabria, Naples, Rome, Bologna, Milan. The wedding (co)tour is about to begin and we'll give you the ticket as a gift.
Reggio Calabria: between sophistication and trend
Clearly sunny, but in a chic way, and not too traditionalist in the choice of wedding dress. The women of Reggio Calabria seem to get closer to those of Milan, despite the many kilometers of separation, in the search for a chic minimalism that without too many frills. Refined simplicity wins.

«Specifically this year compared to previous years here, yes look more for smooth fabric such as cady satin or the soft one, for example silk-effect tulle. Today, obviously also in Calabria the civil ceremony is more present than the religious one, so we are moving towards linear yet ethereal solutions. Clearly the wider lines do not disappear and traditional. Maybe you focus on the bodice, a particular neckline or sleeves to be tailored”, says Noemi Azzurra Neto Dell'Acqua, designer of Davida Sposa in Reggio Calabria.

«For colour, however, ours focus on wedding dresses light ivory. They wear the veil in most cases. What is coming back is the request of the mantilla on smooth clothes.”

Naples: sumptuous romance
We expected it: in what was the capital of the Bourbon kingdom, it remains a bit atavistic search for a certain stylistic royalty as for the choice of dress that is definitely classic and romantic. The favorite cut in Naples is undisputed and is the princess cut, as is the color: at the altar one goes, unquestionably, in pure white. How else?

«Neapolitan brides love more than tradition itself craftsmanship, handmade. They want to appear but not to show off: their aim is to underline with a dress dress to impress that that particular day is the most beautiful and special of their life. And to do so they want to transmit through the mastery ofhand made that there is a story behind it, a design. In general in the South compared to the North we love couture more which is expressed through a particular hand-made embroidery or draping. Lace, then, is almost essential”, explains the Neapolitan wedding designer Gianni Molaro with ateliers in Rome and San Giuseppe Vesuviano (NA).

«Perhaps due to the monarchical history behind what was the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, the Neapolitans love models that provide tails, trains, long veils, everything that is princely. This is why the frock coat line is less in demand here. In this romantic vision, however, there is an eye on the trend: the transformable wedding dress is very fashionable.”
The wedding dress “in progress”, that is switchable during the wedding to adapt the silhouette to the time of day, it is a trend for 2024. Many collections offer it: it conquers future brides with a more practical spirit but who do not want to give up the surprise effect

Rome: whispered sensuality
Even in the City you can breathe royalty, but in a different nuance compared to Naples. Princess cuts conquer Roman brides who, however, prefer to give volumes to the pure romance sought by the majority of Neapolitans a covertly more sensual meaning starting from the V-necks preferred over the sweetheart ones. Even in the Eternal City the preferred dress is mostly white and long.

«The Roman bride it is generally very feminine: even when choosing a romantic outfit, she prefers a touch of sensuality and refinement. Certainly, from the fabric point of view she chooses French lace, macramé. If the wedding takes place in the evening, she loves a beautiful embroidery that gives light. However, I underline, what distinguishes it is the refinement and femininity: the wedding dress will certainly be precious in the simplicity of the line and important in the refinement of the raw material”, states the couturier Alessandro Angelozzi, founder of Alessandro Angelozzi Couture with atelier in Rome, Pescara, Teramo and Milan who took care of, among others, the wedding dress of Elisabetta Canalis and Martina Stella.

Bologna: classic with surprise
For the brides of Bologna comes the surprise effect. But don't expect sartorial pyrotechnics or dressed-up fireworks. On simple lines what stands out for future brides in the city of the two towers is the detail that does not go unnoticed.

That touch wow Elisabetta Garuffi, owner and stylist of Tosca Spose, confirms this on a clean style: «With us, future brides are looking above all for a clean and essential dress even if traditional, in the sense that you still love something classic even if mixed with a particular accessory like a stylized bow, a big size flower. The veil is always in great demand, perhaps with some particular finishing such as raw cut petals with a 3D effect. Another thing requested is the two-piece dress where you can glimpse the bare belly or the miniskirt that perhaps comes out of a slit, but always on a very bon ton silhouette.”

Milan: sophisticated balance
Milan brides prefer clean lines and frock coat cut for their dress on the most beautiful day. The length has the upper hand here too but notes of color emerge on the dress, although the choice for the majority remains the classic white.

Nicole Milano 2024 collection
«Simplicity is the first request of the Milanese bride. No volume, no rhinestones, no glitter. Even for necklines which must never be excessive. This does not mean, however, that chic sophistication must necessarily rhyme with being chaste”, says Francesca Piccini, designer and owner of the atelier of the same name in Milan (to which the one in Naples was later added).
Instantly say “yes, I want it” to a beautiful wedding dress if you are pregnant? It's not an impossible mission with wedding dresses (not just maternity) that best fit the baby bump growing. Having impeccable style and being fabulously pregnant at your wedding is possible (and worth double)

«As far as fabric is concerned, in Milan lace is less in demand, there is more choice silk cady, experiments with paintings and embroidery on organza, linen, silk tulle. For colours, in addition to the most requested white, there is also powder, the green or pink insert which is perceived as something noble. The city is more projected onto the world than other areas of Italy and this can be seen in the choice to go a little outside the Italian bridal mold. For the line, the mermaid cut, and anything that comes into too much contact with the body, is banned. The long dress, however, even in Milan, is the most requested and softest model. What I'm noticing now is the recovery of family veils, even ancient ones, in a sort of luxury recycling. After all, in some cases, they are real treasures.”
