The land of a hundred castles, medieval villages, a riot of nature, as well as culture, the Lunigiana it is perfect (also) for a slow weekend during the summer. Now, to offer us a perfect opportunity to return is a festival that combines art and beauty and that guides us to discover all the best of this land full of grace between Liguria, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. “Lunigiana Land Art”: widespread festival that goes on until 3 July in 12 municipalities of the province of Massa Carrara and that is Bagnone, Casola in Lunigiana, Comano, Filattiera, Fosdinovo, Licciana Nardi, Mulazzo, Podenzana, Pontremoli, Tresana, Villafranca, Zeri.
The art
12 unique villages also thanks to contemporary art, with site specific works created during artist residencies by Rachele Maistrello, Laura Pugno, Ilaria Turba, Marco Loi and Giacomo Bianco, the Italian photo novel and Polisonum collectives and then Marina Caneve, Cesura, Felicity Hammond, Jacopo Benassi and Stefano Azario who will also hold workshops for young artists and enthusiasts as well as meetings open to the public.
Participating and seeing their installations will be the highlight of Lunigiana Land Art, which however is also many other things at the same time: dream shows, concerts, activities for children, trekking and bike tours, guided tours, great cuisine, which unfold between woods and unspoiled nature, villages, castles and medieval churches with always different appointments e all free.
The program
For instance, on May 28 we visit Fosdinovo, a panoramic village dominated by the Malaspina Castleon the 29th we go to Parish church of Sant’Andrea which is located in the part of Lunigiana that borders the Val di Vara, along the road traveled by pilgrims to reach Santiago de Compostela. From 3 to 11 June it continues with Cesura Photobuster workshop, a free production workshop which is at the same time a photographic cultural residency project created by Cesura to document Italian and non-Italian territories with an authorial and independent approach. It continues on June 4th with a visit to the village of Bagnone considered one of the most picturesque in all of Tuscany, built on natural gorges and waterfalls with arcaded alleys and small stone bridges. The 5 is instead dedicated to Pontremoli, the gateway to Tuscany with a medieval historic center to be discovered. From 10 to 12 are not to be missed in Zeri “Master Trees”, two experiential shows (one for adults only and the other for families) to experience very special sound and visual moments led by a performer in the woods. Also on 12 June at Malaspina Castle of Terrarossa the concert of Chromakeys jazz quartet of musicians who have collaborated with giants such as Michael Bublè and Lucio Dalla. These are some of the first examples of the events that go on until the end of the festival, culminating in the last one, from 30 June to 3 July, when it will be possible to admire all the works created by the invited artists.
