Welt: Polish coal in demand for Europe under the weight of the energy crisis

Coal from Poland was considered too expensive and too dirty, but due to the energy crisis, its image is undergoing a rapid transformation today, notes Welt.

Demand from neighboring countries, especially Germany, is huge. This is becoming more and more of a problem for Polish consumers. Now Warsaw is reacting.

In the energy crisis, the reputation of Polish coal is changing rapidly in Europe. For a long time it was considered too expensive and too dirty, but today it is more in demand than ever in neighboring countries. Sharp increases in gas and oil prices and, finally, the failure of French nuclear plants as well as Germany’s unprecedented dependence on Russian raw material supplies made Polish coal once again competitive in Europe. For domestic consumers, however, significant price increases due to increased demand are a major problem. To which the Warsaw government is now reacting.
