Germany and Israel want to end the war in Ukraine “as soon as possible”, according to the Welt.
In a brief meeting, Chancellor Olaf Solz (SPD) and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett exchanged views on the war in Ukraine.
A spokesman for the government, Stephen Hempstreet, announced Sunday night that Bennett had briefed the chancellor during a 90-minute meeting in Berlin on the outcome of a meeting he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday.
Solz and Bennett agreed “to remain in close contact on the issue – the common goal remains to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible,” the statement said. Zelensky had previously asked Bennett for mediation. “Israel has good relations with both Ukraine and Russia,” the report said.
Bennett traveled to Moscow on Saturday as a mediator in the conflict in Ukraine and spoke with Putin for three hours. According to a spokesman for the Israeli government, Bennett briefed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the meeting. He then flew to Berlin.
