West Bank: Palestinian shot dead by Israeli soldiers after gun attack on Jewish settlement

A Palestinian was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning during clashes with Israeli troops in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The Palestinian, about 20 years old, was shot in the chest during an Israeli army operation in the Azun community, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a brief statement to the press.

It was preceded by an attack by two gunmen at the entrance of the Jewish settlement of Ariel, in the northern part of the West Bank, who killed an Israeli guard and then fled in a car.

Soldiers and security forces have launched a manhunt to locate the perpetrators, the Israeli army (IDF) said earlier in a Twitter post. Roadblocks have been set up in the surrounding area, which has been blocked.

In recent weeks, 14 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks.

The Israeli army has stepped up its operations in the occupied West Bank in a bid to prevent similar attacks. More than 20 Palestinians have been killed during Israeli army operations, which often result in bloody clashes.
