Russia remains committed to its gas supply obligations, but is unable to fulfill them due to the economic sanctions imposed on it by the West, the Kremlin spokesman said today Dmitry Peskovas reported by the Interfax agency.
Earlier today, Russian energy giant Gazprom announced that it had suspended natural gas deliveries to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline due to maintenance work.
The temporary interruption is expected to last until 04:00 on Saturday morning Greek time.
In July, Gazprom carried out maintenance work on the same pipeline for ten days, during which its flow was interrupted again natural gas to Europe. Then it was to blame, according to Moscow, for a turbine which could not be sent to Russia due to sanctions. Germany, where the turbine was located, for its part had responded that Moscow is the one blocking its mission.
The company then resumed natural gas deliveries, but slightly reduced their quantity to 20% of Nord Stream’s normal capacity.
Before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, about a third of the 153 billion cubic meters of natural gas the bloc buys annually reached the EU through Nord Stream.
