British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hold talks with US President Joe Biden and Other leaders later in the day called for tougher sanctions against Russia and further support for Ukraine, a spokesman for the British prime minister said.
Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Japan, NATO member states and the European Commission will also take part in the telephony.
Earlier, a senior British national security official briefed Johnson and British government ministers on London’s assessment of the situation in Ukraine, the spokesman said.
“The next phase of the war is likely to be a war of attrition that could last for many months. Russia will seek to take advantage of the number of its troops, but Ukraine has already shown that this is unlikely to be decisive on its own.” the spokesman told reporters conveying the assessment of the official, who was not named.
“There is some evidence that Russia has not learned from previous failures in northern Ukraine,” he said.
