Technology has advanced faster and faster every year, bringing changes, benefits and challenges to all of us. Check out the main technological trends for 2025 below, according to experts interviewed by CNN .
THE artificial intelligence has become a constant presence in everyday life, increasingly integrated into our devices, and the trend is for mini AI models to come built into smartphones — just like Apple Intelligence, launched for the iPhone 16 line this year –, so that we can carry these features in our pocket.
Furthermore, other innovations have also gained strength in the technological world, which has adapted so that equipment can handle increasingly complex activities.
Artificial intelligence
Realistic videos made by AI
According to experts, by 2025 we should see significant advances in the production of realistic videos made by artificial intelligence.
“We are going to enter an era of realistic videos at a much lower cost, everything that we saw with images, now reaching videos, will accelerate. If in the beginning it was text, then came images, now videos”, he said Arthur Church technology specialist.
AI Agents
Another trend that is gaining momentum is the launch of artificial intelligence agents, that is, software that has a more complex ability than just responding to user commands, being able to make decisions that are more similar to human decisions.
The professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and partner at the Locomotiva Institute, Álvaro Machado explained: “This changes our relationship with artificial intelligence, because to the extent that you can pass a task to it, and not simply receive some information through it, you are reducing the burden of work on the human being.”
“In short, artificial intelligence agents are the path to the indisputable replacement of human work by algorithms, which tends to happen in the coming years with increasing speed, especially from 2026 onwards”, added Machado.
For Arthur Igreja, this will be “the big theme of 2025” in AI. “Therefore, [a IA] it doesn’t just perform a specific function, but begins to be multimodal. While, on the other side, people begin to no longer be able to identify whether they are interacting with human beings or with AIs,” Church explained.
Quantum computing
Quantum computing studies how quantum mechanics can be used — both in computer hardware and in algorithms — to solve complex problems that classical computers, or even supercomputers, cannot solve quickly enough.
According to Machado, advances in this area are important so that information processing hardware continues to be able to carry out the increasingly complex tasks proposed with technological advances.
6G
With 5G already consolidated, we should hear more and more about 6G, according to Arthur Igreja. The sixth generation of wireless communication technology for mobile internet networks is already being tested, and should be 50 times faster than 5G.
Weapons development
Álvaro Machado also highlighted that we should see advances in the technology used to develop weapons, driven by the war in Ukraine.
“We had a year, in 2024, with many conflicts. So, naturally, this it stimulates the weapons industry, which should be the pivot of many changes,” he said.
Regulation
Finally, Arthur Igreja points out that advances in technology should spark even more intense debates about the regulation of these tools and platforms, especially with regard to artificial intelligence, which is occupying increasingly larger spaces, not only in content production, but in the advancement of medicine, agriculture, industry, among other spheres.
