The circulation of new variants of the Covid-19 virus has increased transmission rates of the disease even in countries with wide access to the vaccine, such as Germany, the United States and France. Despite not being accompanied by a rise in serious cases and deaths, the greater presence of the coronavirus in the population has worried doctors, including in Brazil.
One of the mutations of the Ômicron variant, BQ.1, was identified on October 20 in Amazonas and is already circulating in other Brazilian states. Faced with the increase in cases in the country, experts warn of the need to expand the share of the population immunized with the additional recommended doses of the vaccine against the disease.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of concerns about the rise in Covid-19 cases in Brazil and around the world and the lessons learned about the best alternatives to contain the disease.
To describe the risks and precautions with the new increase in cases, infectious disease specialists Rosana Richtmann, from Hospital Emílio Ribas, and Renato Kfouri, director of the Brazilian Society of Immunizations (SBIm) participate in this episode.
