In order to exploit the country’s excellent wind potential, estimated at 30GW, the competent Ministry of Environment and Energy is promoting the new legislation for marine wind farms.
The specific intervention is foreseen to take place after the new law for the simplification of the licensing of RES as well as for the storage of energy.

Regarding the interconnection, IPTO is examined to study from the beginning and to plan the interconnection solution, while the final maturation (studies, measurements, licenses) will be done by the investors, who will participate in tenders for the price of the produced energy.
The managing body is considered to be the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Management Company (EDEY) as it has experience in concession tenders, in the management of environmental studies, in safety rules in the marine area but also in the collection and analysis of design data.
It is noted that IPTO will have the overall responsibility for the design, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the marine interconnection as well as the infrastructure for the connection to the national electricity system.
Finally, the determination of the aid is foreseen to be done with a tender on price for the mature projects by the Energy Regulatory Authority, while the support scheme will be notified and approved by the EU.
