The first was the father. Angelo Bertolotti, when his daughter died, dismissed the hypothesis of a casual accident. Brittany Murphy, found lifeless in her bathtub on December 20, 2009, would not die from the repercussions of pneumonia, aggravated by severe anemia and an overdose of drugs. She would be killed. Poisoned, claimed the man, whose words echo in part in the trailer for What happened, Brittany Murphy?.
The documentary, of which Hbo has now released a first trailer, does not want to promote one or the other theory.
Only, to give vent to a complex, dark story, in which the actress’s husband, Simon Monjack, seems to have played a fundamental role. “He said he dated Elle Macpherson and Madonna, but also treated his brain cancer with shark fin medicine. Every single word was a lie, “he says in the documentary trailer, available from 14 October, one of the interviewees: friends, co-workers, family of Brittany Murphy. “She became a prey,” and Simon Monjack, who died five months after his wife, of the same apparent causes, “made sure no one could get to her anymore.”
In the documentary, which Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president of Hbo Max, said she wanted to “silence the rumors and gossip”, the theories of the interviewees point to a culprit. Precise, but different from the one identified, in 2009, by the actress’s father. Then, Bertolotti kept some organic samples of his daughter and had them analyzed privately, discovering inside them a massive dose of heavy metals: the same contained in rat poison and insecticide products, the same ones later found also among Monjack’s samples. “The only logical explanation is that someone administered these toxic substances to the two with a clear criminal intent,” ruled the medical report, while Bertolotti shouted at the conspiracy.
