What if the Venetian dialect was taught in Venetian schools?

Why not teach the Venetian dialect in Venetian schools? The singular invention is, in reality, a real one bill, presented to the Chamber by 18 Northern League deputies: the first signatory is the undersecretary of the Ministry of Economic Development, Massimo Bitonci, and with him are also Alberto Gusmeroli, president of the Productive Activities Commission, Ingrid Bisa, Dimitri Coin and Gianangelo Bof. The bill aims at also include the Venetian dialect among the minority languages protect from article 6 of the Constitution (as happens for the Albanian, Germanic or French-speaking communities), modifying the law 482 of ’99 which protects linguistic minorities.

The bill aims to «provide for the teaching of regional languages in schools of all levels, with one particular attention to kindergartenso that the child can speak his mother tongue”.

Not only that: even the news from the Adige to the Piave could be broadcast, in part, in the Venetian dialect. Indeed, an article of the bill establishes that the Region can “sign agreements with the concessionary company of the public radio and television service and with the local radio and television broadcasters, including specifically set up for this purpose, for the promotion of news broadcasts and general programs in minority languages».

If the bill is approved, the Region, led by Northern League member Luca Zaia, should take steps to sign “a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education” to establish “the general criteria for the implementation” of this reform.

Also in Piedmont a similar initiative has been launched. Andrea Cane, regional councilor of the League, presented a bill to safeguard and enhance the regional linguistic and dialectal heritage, “as a qualifying element of Piedmontese identity”. The idea is to use Piedmontese also in billboards, tourist signs and road signs. And to introduce an optional hour of Piedmontese dialect at school.
