An episode of feminicide ended in a triple homicide in the rural area of Varzelândia, Minas Gerais, on Saturday morning (14). The man, who sought out his family during the separation process, was armed and murdered his ex-partner and the property’s caretaker. He was then beaten to death by his ex-father-in-law, the victim’s father.
The crime occurred around 10 am, when the man arrived at the farm and requested to speak with his ex-partner’s family. After the victim’s parents left, he fired shots at her.
In an attempt to protect two 9-year-old children, the farm’s caretaker confronted the attacker and was shot and killed on the spot. The girls, in panic, managed to flee to a nearby relative’s house and called for help.
Man tried to chase children
The attacker, upon realizing that the children had escaped, tried to chase them, but his gun failed. He then confronted the victim’s father, who had returned to the farm. During the fight, the former father-in-law struck him with a piece of wood, killing the attacker.
Wounded in the head, the ex-father-in-law managed to escape to a wooded area. The attacker’s ex-wife was rushed to hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital. The victim’s mother, who witnessed the crime, also needed medical attention.
Investigation and inquiry
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) is investigating the case and working to elucidate the circumstances of the crime.
An expert examination carried out at the scene found the weapon used in the crime, ammunition and around R$5,000 belonging to the family of the woman, a victim in the triple homicide. The bodies of the three victims were sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
In a note released by PCMG, this Monday (16) the institution informed that the search for the ex-father-in-law who managed to escape from the place was ended, since “the circumstances that characterize arrest in flagrante delicto are no longer present due to the time lapse”the note states.
The corporation reported that a police investigation was opened and the father-in-law will be summoned, following the legal process.
