Model Luciana Curtis, 47, was kidnapped in São Paulo, with her husband and 14-year-old daughter, when the three of them were leaving a restaurant in Alto da Lapa, in the west zone, on Wednesday night (27) .
According to the Civil Police, they were taken to captivity in Parada de Taipas, where they spent the night and were forced to make bank transfers. According to the police, they were released early in the morning of Thursday (28) when the police were already investigating the case. The captivity was discovered, but it was empty and no one was arrested.
An international model with campaigns for brands such as Revlon and L’Oreal and fashion shows for Victoria’s Secret, she was with her husband, photographer Henrique Gendre, and her daughter.
The trio had dinner at a Japanese restaurant located on Avenida Pio XI and, upon leaving the establishment, they were approached by the kidnappers – it has not yet been clarified how many there were.
The criminals captured the couple and their daughter, who were forced to get into their family’s vehicle and taken to a favela in Parada de Taipas. Held under arms in a shack, they were forced to make bank transfers.
On Thursday morning, another daughter of the couple, who had not accompanied the family and was at home, was surprised by the absence of her parents and sister and informed an uncle.
The family then contacted the Civil Police, and the Anti-Kidnapping Division (DAS) began the investigation. By geotagging one of the victims’ cell phones, the agents discovered the approximate location where they were and went there.
Before the police discovered the exact location of the captivity, the kidnappers freed the three victims and fled. On the street, around 12 hours after the kidnapping began, the trio asked for help from municipal employees who were passing by and were welcomed.
When the police identified the captivity, it was empty. The 3rd Police Station for the Suppression of Extortion with Restriction of the Victim’s Freedom took statements from the victims and is trying to identify the criminals, including with the help of images from security cameras.
In a statement, the São Paulo Security Secretariat reported that “the Anti-Kidnapping Division of the Department of Strategic Police Operations (DOPE) is committed to identifying and arresting those involved” and that “other details will be preserved to guarantee the autonomy of police work”.
