Sasha Meneghel, 25, launched this Monday (10) its brand, Mondepars, and admitted that it is, yes, a “nepo baby”. Presenter’s daughter Xuxa Meneghel, 61, and the actor Luciano Szafir 55, she stated that she recognizes her privileges.
“I’m ‘nepo baby’, yes. I am immensely privileged to be able to bring together so many incredible people here. For contacts that I naturally received in my life for being a ‘nepo baby’. I recognize all of this. Now, that’s what I’m going to do with all this, with the opportunities I have at hand”, he said, in an interview with the FFW portal.
But what does “nepo baby” mean? Understand how the term came about, its meaning and see some examples of young people, like Sasha, who have no problem admitting that they have privileges in the world of celebrities.
What does it mean to be a “nepo baby”?
The term “nepo baby” exploded in 2022 and is an abbreviation of the expression “nepotism baby” (“nepotism baby”, in Portuguese translation). By definition, nepotism, as defined by the Houaiss dictionary, is the favoritism of relatives, especially by public authorities. Following this line, the term “nepo baby” refers to a new generation of celebrities who have achieved a place in the industry more easily because they already have very active parents within it.
Some examples of “nepo baby” are Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman), Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis), Zoe Kravitz (Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet) and Dakota Johnson (Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith). Before Sasha, Maya Hawke also spoke about the subject in a recent interview and said that “it wouldn’t help anyone” to deny the opportunities that appeared in her career.
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has also spoken about the expression previously. Along with Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, she has two children: Apple and Moses. Apple has even become a model for mother’s well-being products. “There is nothing wrong with doing or wanting to do what your parents do. Nobody criticizes a child who says ‘I want to be a doctor like my father and grandfather’.”
