The Nikon brand carried out its annual photomicrography contestwhich is open to the general public and is dedicated to rewarding all those interested in photography through the optical microscope, from the widest range of scientific disciplines.
Each year, a panel of experts made up of recognized authorities in the area of photomicrography and photography evaluates the images sent by the participants, from which 20 winners are selected, images that are exhibited in numerous museums and science centers in the United States and Canada.
After the publication of the recent delivery of photos of the also known as the “Nikon small world contest”, one of the 57 participating images that most caught the attention of users on networks was that of a carpenter ant, which caused an impact due to its monstrous and terrifying appearance.
The person in charge of capturing the creepy expression of the insect was Dr. Eugenijus Kavaliauskas, a Lithuanian photographer who, through his websiteshared his experience and reported that he used reflected light to photograph the ant’s full face in close-up.
With an angry expression, with dark red eyes and yellow lines that at first glance seem to be sharp teeth, despite not having won a prize in the contest or being among the first 20 places, the photomicrograph went viral in networks and was admired by millions of Internet users.
Among the most recurrent comments among users, those who said that it looked like an image taken from a horror or superhero movie stood out, while a few others claimed that it was scary and some more that they could not stop admiring the incredible results that this guy leaves of photographs.
