More and more terms like “remake” and “reboot” are mentioned when talking about films or series. But do you know what that means? A CNN explains what they are and what is the difference between them. (See below).
What is a remake?
The term “remake” is generally used in reference to a film or series that uses a previous work as its main source – almost like a remake, but which may undergo small changes or updates to the script.
Often a remake is made for a new audience with a new cast, but telling the same story.
For example, the classic “Footloose – Crazy Rhythm” (1984) received a remake in 2011. Both productions tell the same story and contain identical scenes.
Another film that is a remake is “Eleven men and a secret” (2001). The first version was released in 1960.
In the universe of series, success “Suits” got a South Korean remake. The same story is told, but in another language and location.
In Brazil, the soap opera “Renascer”, which is being shown on TV Globo, is a remake of the work that aired in 1993.

What is a reboot?
When we talk about a reboot, it is a “reboot” of a story. – which will rescue a universe, characters, but will have a different script. Therefore, it means a new version of a film or series.
The film “The Panthers” (2019) is a reboot of the 1976 series of the same name, which had already been released in the cinema in the 2000s.
In 2022, the series “Gossip Girl” got a reboot with new characters, but in the same universe. Furthermore, the title referred to the original production and the story featured actors from the first plot.
