A few days before the first round of the elections, the portrait of the presidential race pointed out by the polls of intention to vote reinforces the perspective of a dispute focused on Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who appears in advantage, and Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which seeks to take the definition to a possible second round.
At the same time, the number of abstentions among Brazilians in the last two elections was around 20% – that is, one in five voters failed to go to the polls. The total represents more than the total number of voters who intend to vote for one of the candidates who are trying to stand up to the Lula and Bolsonaro campaigns.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of the possible impact on this year’s elections of the portion of Brazilians who plan to vote for the so-called Third Way or opt for the white, null or abstention vote.
To provide an overview of the weight of these votes, or the lack of them, in the definition of the presidential race, the political risk analyst Creomar de Souza, from the consultancy Dharma Politics, and the political scientist Carlos Pereira, a professor at FGV, participate in this episode.
