What Pope Leo XIV’s costume can say about his pontificate

When the Pope Francis He stepped on the balcony of St. Peter’s Square in 2013, he did so with a simple white tunic, eliminating much of the pomp that surrounds the papacy. But when Pope Leo XIV revealed to the world on Thursday (8), he wore the traditional papal robes about his white cassock.

Upon returning to the standards, perhaps Pope Leo XIV wanted to show that he is not trying to clone Francisco’s papacy. In his speech, however, he praised Francis’ legacy – and seems to be determined to follow the Franciscan path.

Another resemblance between the two popes may be the place where Leo XIV will choose to live during his papacy. Francisco decided not to live in the splendor of the Vatican Apostolic Palace, opting for the most modest host Santa Marta. Maybe Leo XIV do the same; But we will have to wait to see.
