New scenarios for his health Vladimir Putin his latest appearance sparked. The Russian President appeared with a spot on his forehead, red-brown in color, with many claiming that this is a sign that reveals a health problem.
The issue was also commented on by some international media – mainly tabloids – with speculation about the cause of the mark on the forehead. Is it an age spot or something more serious? Subsequently, Putin’s “spot” also “trended” on social media with many claiming that Vladimir Putin is gravely ill.
THE German professor, Volker Steinkraus, of the Dermatology Institute of Hamburg, speaking to Bild emphasized that it is probably a sign related to advanced age and is called “radial hyperkeratosis” (lentigo solaris). In general – at least in the first phase – it is harmless and can be easily treated with the use of the appropriate cream.
What is “radial hyperkeratosis”
Actinic hyperkeratosis, also known as solar hyperkeratosis, is a form of abnormal skin cell growth. It is the most common skin damage due to long-term exposure to the sun, with the skin becoming rough and dry.
Ultraviolet radiation causes the degeneration of skin cells. At young ages, the body can and does repair a part of these damages. However, over time, the damage accumulates and the body is unable to repair it. Then the effects of the sun on the skin become visible. Since UV radiation continues to hit the already damaged skin, actinic hyperkeratosis is created.
Actinic hyperkeratoses can be unpleasant and unsightly for the patient but are generally harmless. They usually remain on the skin without changing form. However, if they are not treated, then the risk of them developing into a cancerous form increases.
Actinic hyperkeratoses are the most common early form of skin cancer and are a precursor to squamous cell carcinoma, a less serious form of skin cancer that develops relatively slowly and, if caught early, can be successfully treated.
The more hyperkeratosis a person has, the greater the chance that one or more of them will turn into a malignant form. It is therefore very important that people with hyperkeratosis (even if they have gone away on their own) visit a dermatologist for a skin examination. The immediate treatment of actinic hyperkeratosis aims to prevent the possibility of progression to some form of skin cancer.
