«Marriages or registered partnerships formalized in one State member should be recognized in all EU countries in a uniform manner and spouses and partners of the same sex should be treated in the same way as their counterparts of the opposite sex ». The European Parliament with a resolution has asked all the States of the European Union to eliminate obstacles and barriers that the people of the community LGBT meet in different European countries.
The resolution arises from a ruling by the European Court of Justice according to which the provisions on spouses in the Free Movement Directive must also apply to same-sex couples.
MEPs are asking the Commission to take action against Romania, which has not updated its national legislation based on this ruling.
The text was approved with 387 votes in favor, 161 against and 123 abstentions. Among the Italian MEPs voted in favor of Pd, M5S and Italia Viva. Against Lega and Fratelli d’Italia. The representatives of Forza Italia were divided between in favor, against and abstentions.

All EU countries are asked to recognize adults mentioned on a child’s birth certificate as legal parents. Rainbow families should have the same right to family reunification as heterosexual couples. Guarantees are needed for children who have the right to move between member states without losing their status in families. Treatment should be uniform across the EU.
