What the first 3D window switching effect in Windows looked like from 2005

The history of the Windows operating system can be roughly divided into two stages: before the advent of modern three-dimensional animations and after. The frontier fell on Windows Vista, it was in it that a completely new interface appeared. Particularly noteworthy was the second Vista pre-beta, build number 5212, compiled on July 26, 2005, which introduced Flip3D technology for the first time. It was shown by the Windows on Windows Twitter blog.

Flip3D is an alternative to the more popular 2D Alt+Tab window switching menu that survives to this day. The 3D counterpart was abandoned with the release of Windows 8, but it survived in both Vista and Windows 7, called by the Win + Tab combination.

The 5212 build of Windows Vista is also notable for the debut of the “Windows Sidebar” (later renamed “Desktop Gadgets” in Windows 7). It has become a full-fledged separate utility, and not part of the “Explorer”.
