An 8-year-old American citizen who grew up with her parents in Islamic state was recently rescued from a Syrian camp.
The little one is now waiting to see if she can return to the US…
What the little American woman who has lived since 2014 in the Islamic State reveals
Aminah Mohamad, daughter of an American from Tennessee, lived in the territories controlled by the ISIS from 2014. At one point the little girl was sent to a detention camp in Syria, where she was found on July 17 and rescued.
The little girl was interviewed by the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism and talked about her life with terrorists. The news was given by the former diplomat Peter Galbraith.
“She clearly identifies herself as Amina and spoke about her family with great sadness,” said Anne Speckhard, the agency’s director. She said the girl “does not have a clear picture of her country of origin” and needs “a safe, predictable and tender environment to replace the trauma in which she has lived for so long”.
The girl was rescued thanks to Galbraith and a Canadian woman who met her mother while living in Islamic State.

“Children in the camps have the worst start in life,” she said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Aminah’s mother, Ariel Bradley, was a devout Christian who converted to Islam and later married Yasin Mohamad, a Muslim from Sweden.
The family lived in Sweden, but moved to Islamic State territory in the Middle East. Mohamad was killed in an airstrike in June 2015 and she remarried, this time to a hardline ISIS supporter, Australian Tareq Kamleh.
When Bradley and Kamleh were killed in 2018, Aminah was given to another woman by her stepfather, a woman from Somalia.
Galbraith, who has been rescuing children and women from ISIS for years, found her in a detention camp and worked with Syrian authorities to free her.
