What they discussed for almost 3 hours Putin – Erdogan

The talks between the Russian president and the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi lasted almost three hours. Vladimir Putin with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as announced by the Kremlin and the Turkish Presidency, after the end of the talks.

However, neither of the two leaders made detailed statements to the media after the talks, although Putin thanked Erdogan for the visit, which he described as useful and substantial, according to the APE MPE.

Erdogan described the talks as productive. “After productive conversations “My colleague Putin and I left Sochi,” he wrote on his own Telegram channel, in which he posted a photo with the Russian president, TASS reports from Ankara.

The two leaders discussed reducing the resurgence of violence in the northwest Syria and for the possible expansion of sales of military defense systems of Moscow in Ankara despite theUS objections, but also issues of economic interest and international relations.

In particular, Putin noted the successful cooperation between the two countries regarding the situation in Syria and Libya, while he also referred separately to the operation of the ceasefire control center in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Russian president, this cooperation is “serious guarantee of stability” in the area.

The Turkish president in turn referred to the joint project, its construction nuclear power plant power plant in Akuyu, the first reactor of which may start operating next year.

Ahead of the two leaders’ meeting, Turkish officials said Erdogan would press Putin to return to truce agreed last year to end the Russian and Syrian army offensive against Turkish-backed fighters in the Idlib region of Syria. At the beginning of the talks, Erdogan told Putin that “the steps we are taking together on Syria are very important. “Peace there depends on Turkish-Russian relations.”

Putin made only a cursory reference to Syria in his introductory comments, according to the APE BPE, saying that it is one of the areas where the two countries are cooperating quite successfully. The Russian leader even said that negotiations with Turkey are sometimes difficult, but that the two countries have learned how to find mutually beneficial compromises.

Erdogan’s message to the USA

Although there was no mention of the possible purchase by Turkey of more Russian missile defense systems S-400, in an obvious reference to the Americans, Erdogan told Putin that he wanted to discuss further the defense cooperation, regardless of US objections.

“At the UN General Assembly, ordinary people asked us specific questions about certain issues, of course,” Erdogan told Putin. “We gave them the necessary answer anyway. It is not possible for us to go back after the steps we took. I strongly believe this: it is very important for us to continue reinforcing daily Turkey-Russia ties “.

Turkey, a NATO member, has bought Russian S-400 missile defense arrays in 2019, provoking sanctions on the part of the USA at the expense of its defense industry and warnings from Washington for further measures in case it purchases other Russian equipment.

Erdogan said last week that Turkey still intends to procure a second arrayS-400, saying that no country can dictate Ankara’s actions.
